Kenya Fact II: Of Kenya, the Garden of Eden & Tomb Raider

The discovery of hominid fossils in Kenya dating back to millions of years have led many to believe Kenya (and of course the surrounding East Africa region) as the cradle of mankind. A homo erectus skull dating back 1.5 million years plus a 1.4 million old homo habilis skull are Kenya’s credentials in the world of palaeontology.
Whichever theory that one espouses to, be it the Biblical or Darwinian theory, you can’t doubt that Kenya is where it all started and our strategic location in the heart of Africa is further testament to this. If we keep on planting trees in earnest, we’ll definitely be able to keep away the periodic drought that ravages the Northern part of the country and beyond. Plus the air will be so much cooler and the mosquitoes will retreat from Nairobi.
Still on the cradle, Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life was shot in Kenya in 2002 and they must have been thinking along the same train of thought. Although Kenya’s impressive wildlife and magnificent landscapes must have played a major role in their decision to select Kenya as the backdrop for Lara Croft’s adventure.
